Mission Statement

The mission of the Walter Thompson Orchestra is to develop multidisciplinary works using Soundpainting; to foster individual creativity in professionals and students of all ages, abilities, and disciplines; to increase the greater community’s participation in and awareness of the performing and visual arts through Soundpainting.

EEO Statement

The staff, board, and members of The Walter Thompson Orchestra (WTO) represent a wide variety of cultural and ethnic backgrounds. The WTO does not discriminate against any person on the basis of race, sex, color, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status.

One of the fundamental artistic goals of the Soundpainting language is to bring together people of all artistic disciplines and ethnic backgrounds under this common artistic language. Musicians, actors, dancers, poets, and visual artists of all cultural backgrounds work together in Soundpainting to create an ever-evolving collage that unifies individuals in our global environment.

The Walter Thompson Orchestra reaches out to national and international communities through Soundpainting. Walter Thompson composes/conducts Soundpaintings with contemporary orchestras in cities around the world, and teaches Soundpainting at educational institutions and music education conferences worldwide.

Walter Thompson Orchestra Soundpainting Education Programs reach students in public and private schools (grades K-12) throughout the United States and Europe, and reach special-needs populations of all ages, including disabled citizens and at-risk youth, through organizations such as the Ulster-Greene Association for Retarded Citizens (Kingston, NY) and Bellevue Hospital (NYC). The Walter Thompson Orchestra trains adult artists and teachers in Soundpainting through the summer Soundpainting Certification Program and at music education conferences worldwide. All performances of The Walter Thompson Orchestra are open to the public.
